GI Joe Customs and Reviews

Range Viper version 2 and Jungle Terror Twin Battle Gun

I was not putting much expectations into this new wave but I was surprised how good this was. Especially, the price.

For some reason, the new wave got included in the 50% discount sale for older Rise of Cobra sets which makes this just right.

I have been waiting for a decent Leatherneck and, finally, it is here!

Tiger Claw and Leatherneck

Tiger Claw and Leatherneck

For the doubting Thomas in everyone, here is a close up of the price tag and code. Obviously, KZ did not waste time getting these out. In hindsight, they could also do away with the tag had they known that I was passing by ]:)

Wetsuit was not one of my favourites but soon became one only because of his daring exploits in Marvel Comics.

His original gear was sparse and he was not even armed. Later on, he was re-released in a manner befitting his personality. Mines on his shoulder and a gun, finally.

The 25th anniversary Wetsuit is what he ought to be in the first place. Interesting colours with the teeth to boot.

Of course, I could not resist making his helmet more accurate so…

Well, with the abundance of Snowjob at SRP, I have decided to make a custom GI Joe.

Unfortunately, I am rather pre-occupied with reality so I have decided to follow the trend.

I have decided to outsource :D

Just a quick one.

I arrived early at a meeting and had time to dash to the local Toy Store.

By chance, I picked up a rare Wraith at SRP ($7.60).

By some weird circumstance, I was offered a chance to go through undisplayed inventory and scored 3 x Pit Commandos, 2 x Stormshadow unmasked, and a Paris Pursuit Snake Eyes with Timber.

G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra

Being the OCD Information Security Privacy head Honcho, I had to run equally fast to the nearest office supply shop to get one manila envelope that fits all these to make it look like crime scene evidence to pass physical security checks and avoid those weird looks.

Mission Accomplished!

G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra toys have finally been released at Retail!

…and I do not mean the special expensive retail shops ;)

G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra

I have made it a habit to take pictures of Joe store displays at retail as, sooner or later, some evil munny-grabbing Terry the Toy Terror Taliban will use his mummy’s ill-gotten blood munny to hoard these…

Lift Ticket has been one of my favourite characters in GI Joe, mainly, because I did not have a Tomahawk during those days. He was the Joes’ combat helo pilot, along with Wild Bill, and they were both usually in the Tomahawk’s cockpit. I really would not consider Wild Bill as the primary helo pilot as I have an impression that he is always piloting a C130 Hercules and I have only seen Lift Ticket once in a fixed wing aircraft and he was the RIO of Captain Ace, at the time.

I am glad that Lift Ticket was one of the lucky ones adapted to the 25th Anniversary GI Joe line and a fine adaptation, it is!

Compared with the original, the attention to detail is astounding.

Definitely better details and facial expression.

I do have some gripes on this otherwise excellent GI Joe action figure. The lower legs should have been someone else’s as it it is not exactly helo pilot material. Next, Lift Ticket’s flight helmet should have been bulkier at the sides like the original. That is very distinctive of helo flight helmets. Though there was an attempt to do this, it was simply not enough to differentiate this from Scarlet’s flight helmet.

I had hoped that his vest would have been a version of the AIRSAVE but it was a Blackhawk vest with a cross draw holster. I guess Hasbro had to make do with versatility as this vest can be reused with almost any trooper. At least, it was detailed.

He still fits in the GI Joe Tomahawk but it requires a lot of squeezing.

However, Lift Ticket is at home with Bbi’s UH60 Blackhawk.

Bbi’s Blackhawk was simply made for Lift Ticket!

Overall, I rate this GI Joe action figure highly. It was an improvement from the original Lift Ticket and the facial expression makes him very photogenic.

Toy Fair 2009 was a chance to take a gander at the upcoming releases from Hasbro. I was not so keen on the GI Joe Pit Mobile Headquarters as it is essentially, a playset.
